Glossary of Terms and Concepts

The list below introduces several key concepts:

Home or connected Home

It is a residential environment where digital devices connectivity and some digital services are managed by an Home Gateway. It is also refered as smart home as the purpose is to enhance connectivity management, security, energy efficiency with an integrated and intelligent set of equipments.

Home Gateway

often call CPE or Home device rooter. It is a customer-premises equipment that is managing the connectivty with in hous equipments( in Wifi, ethernet, Thread, etc). It can be connected to the network in xDSL, Fibre, Cable, Fixed wireless access.

Prpl OS

It is an opensource Operating System for CPE managed by the prpl fundation. Combined with prplMesh software stack to manage Wi-Fi and prplLCM to manage containerized software components it proposes a unified software solution to build a CPE.

LCM

it stands for Linux Container Manager or LifeCycle Management. It is a set of components (LCM agent within the Home Gateway and LCM Back end within the Home Management Platform) that facilitates the deployment, updates and lifecycle of containers (also called apps) within an Home Gateway.

Home Management Platform

it is the way at Orange we call the evolution of the Device Management System or ACS (Auto-Configuration Server) to a broader ecosystem management with multiple devices and services within the home. We evolve from a technical management of the device to an open ecosystem management thanks to a platforming strategy.
